What does an arrest establish?

Arrest

An arrest is not a conviction. A person accused of an offence is presumed innocent unless guilt is established according to law.

What remains unknown?

  • Number of people formally charged or released
  • Current bail and custody outcomes
  • Results of forensic examinations
  • Prosecutions, convictions and acquittals
  • Whether crime declined after the operations
NUKUNYA DATA ANALYSIS

Concentration of arrests is not a crime-rate ranking

Teshie accounted for 102 of the 192 reported arrests. The three largest named operations accounted for 151, or 78.6%.

These proportions describe police enforcement activity, not neighbourhood crime rates. Comparing crime prevalence would require comparable offence data, time periods, population denominators and enforcement context.

Method: Shares = reported arrests ÷ 192 × 100. Other operations = 192 − 151. Reporting from multiple outlets relying on the same police statement does not constitute independent verification of each arrest.
