NPP Mion Constituency Chairman Sulaiman Abubakar Resigns

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mion Constituency of the Northern Region, Sulaiman Abubakar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

Abubakar announced his resignation in a letter dated Saturday, August 8, 2026, addressed to the NPP Northern Regional Chairman.

In the letter, he described the decision as a personal one and expressed appreciation to the party’s Council of Elders, patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as members and supporters of the constituency for their support during his tenure.

Abubakar Remains NPP Member

Despite stepping down as constituency chairman, Abubakar said he remains an active and committed member of the NPP.

He pledged to continue contributing to the party’s efforts to regain political power in the 2028 general elections.

“I remain an ardent and good standing member of the party and will continue to discharge my role as a member to ensure we recapture power in 2028,” he stated.

Abubakar also thanked party members for the confidence they placed in him and described his time as constituency chairman as an opportunity to serve the party.

Resignation Takes Immediate Effect

The former Mion Constituency Chairman wished the constituency leadership continued success and said he looked forward to maintaining contact with the party.

His resignation took effect on August 8, 2026, according to the letter.

The development leaves the NPP Mion Constituency without its elected chairman as the party continues preparations towards the 2028 general elections.
