NPP Spain Branch Election Was Free, Fair and Transparent – Election Committee Chairman Rejects Boycott Claims

The Chairman of the NPP Spain Branch Election Committee, Kwabena Frimpong, has dismissed allegations that the recently held NPP Spain Branch Executive Elections were marred by irregularities, insisting the process was free, fair, transparent and credible.

His response follows reports claiming that seven Chapter Chairpersons boycotted the election and demanded that the results be nullified. Mr. Frimpong described the allegations as the actions of “bitter losers” attempting to undermine a legitimate democratic exercise.

Election Conducted According to Party Guidelines

According to the Election Committee Chairman, the election, which took place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Logroño, Spain, was conducted strictly in line with the New Patriotic Party’s approved electoral guidelines.

He explained that before the polls, the Committee undertook several measures to ensure transparency and fairness. These included publishing the electoral register, correcting identified errors, creating an official communication platform for all aspirants, extending deadlines for proxy voting, and maintaining continuous engagement with stakeholders throughout the electoral process.

Mr. Frimpong stated that the Committee remained accessible throughout the process, responding to concerns from party members even during late-night hours in Ghana to ensure no eligible delegate was disenfranchised.

Boycott Claims Contradicted by Participation

Addressing reports that several Chapter Executives boycotted the election, Mr. Frimpong argued that events on the ground contradicted those claims.

He cited comments by the NPP Barcelona Women’s Organiser, Maame Mansah, who reportedly stated that no formal meeting had been held among Chapter Executives to collectively endorse a boycott. According to him, she participated in the election and also cast a valid proxy vote on behalf of another executive.

He further explained that although the party’s constitution requires only one-third of eligible delegates to form a quorum for a Delegates Conference, participation in the election exceeded two-thirds of the electoral register through physical and proxy voting.

According to the Committee Chairman, the turnout demonstrated strong confidence in the electoral process.

Committee Responds to Girona Chapter Concerns

Mr. Frimpong also addressed concerns raised by members of the Girona Chapter regarding their earlier chapter elections.

He said the Committee requested the names of members who claimed they had been unable to vote. Although it was initially alleged that many members had been affected, only eight names were submitted for verification.

Following consultations with the NPP Headquarters IT Directorate, the Committee secured an additional 30 minutes to allow those members to vote. However, none of the listed individuals took advantage of the extension.

He said the Committee’s actions reflected its commitment to ensuring fairness and inclusiveness throughout the electoral process.

Election Committee Rejects Calls for Nullification

The Election Committee Chairman maintained that a decision by some members to boycott the election could not invalidate a properly constituted electoral process that complied with all approved rules and timelines.

He stressed that every stakeholder had opportunities to raise objections, seek clarification and have concerns addressed before voting day.

Mr. Frimpong urged party members and the public to disregard reports questioning the credibility of the election, insisting that the process reflected the democratic values of the New Patriotic Party and produced a legitimate leadership for the Spain Branch.

He also congratulated all successful candidates and encouraged members to unite and work together for the continued growth and success of the NPP Spain Branch.
