Lawra Court Jails Father 20 Years for Incest Against 17-Year-Old Daughter

A Circuit Court in Lawra has sentenced a 47-year-old man, identified as Kwame Ti-Zaaelcuu, to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty of incest involving his 17-year-old daughter.

The court also handed the convict an additional 10-year prison sentence for threatening the life of the survivor. Both sentences will run concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time.

Court Finds Father Guilty After Full Trial

The conviction followed investigations by the Lawra District Police Command, which launched an inquiry after receiving a complaint about the abuse.

According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, investigators established that the victim, a Junior High School student, had been subjected to repeated sexual abuse over an extended period. Police also found that the convict allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

Following a full trial, His Honour Stanley Adjei found Kwame Ti-Zaaelcuu guilty of both incest and threat of death. The judgment was delivered on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Court Orders Counselling for Survivor

Beyond the prison sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor to aid her recovery.

The directive is intended to ensure the victim receives the necessary emotional and psychological care following the traumatic experience.

Police Commend Investigation Team

The Upper West Regional Police Command praised the investigators and prosecutor for their professionalism and dedication, describing their efforts as instrumental in securing the conviction.

The Command also urged the public to report cases of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse promptly to the police, stressing that timely reporting helps bring perpetrators to justice while ensuring survivors receive appropriate protection and support.
