Ahafo Ano South West DCE Abubakar Sedik Passes Away After Official Meetings in Kumasi
The Ahafo Ano South West District has lost its District Chief Executive. Abubakar Sedik died on Sunday evening, September 20, 2026, shortly after attending a series of official meetings in Kumasi earlier that day.
Sedik had been among several DCEs who met with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, at the Kumasi Kejetia Phase II project site that Sunday.
From there, the day continued with a stakeholders’ meeting involving Kumasi Central Market trader unions, which wrapped up around 5:00 p.m. Afterward, Sedik and several other DCEs headed to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for a further meeting with the Minister later that evening.
According to accounts of the day’s events, Sedik was travelling back to his district after the final meeting when he began experiencing severe chest pain. He passed away later that same evening.
Early reports point to a heart attack as the cause of death, though official medical confirmation has not yet been made available.
Sedik’s death is expected to be deeply felt, both within the Ahafo Ano South West District and across the wider local government administration in the Ashanti Region.
