Two Killed After STC Bus Catches Fire in Fiery Four-Vehicle Crash Near Bonsu Junction
Two people have died and four others sustained injuries after a devastating four-vehicle collision involving a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up, and a Kia Sorento at Etukrom near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, and triggered a massive fire that completely destroyed the STC bus, the fuel tanker, and the Mitsubishi pick-up. The Kia Sorento also suffered extensive damage.
Emergency personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), together with other rescue agencies, responded swiftly to the scene to extinguish the blaze, rescue trapped victims, and secure the accident area.
According to emergency officials, six victims—comprising four men and two women—were rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital for treatment. Sadly, two of the injured later succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining four continue to receive medical care.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Preliminary reports indicate that one of the fuel tankers veered off the road and plunged into a nearby river following the collision, although authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
The vehicles involved have been identified as:
- STC bus – GS 7050-22
- Mitsubishi Pick-up – GE 8602-17
- Kia Sorento – GT 8601-14
- Fuel tanker
Earlier updates from the Ghana National Fire Service indicated that seven casualties had been recorded at the scene. However, emergency officials later confirmed that six people were transported to hospital, with two deaths subsequently recorded.
Authorities say the fire has been brought under control, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
The incident has caused significant concern among motorists and has become one of the most serious road accidents recorded in the Eastern Region in recent months.
