Black Queens vs Mauritius: Ghana Aim to Seal Olympic Qualifying Progress

Ghana’s Black Queens are one step closer to the next round of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic qualifiers as they prepare to face Mauritius in the second leg of their second-round tie on Tuesday, October 13.

The Queens take a comfortable 3-0 aggregate lead into the return match at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi, putting them in a strong position to progress.

Ghana laid the foundation for their advantage with an impressive display in the first leg at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius.

Abigail Kim gave the Black Queens the lead in the 16th minute, and Alice Kusi added a second just eight minutes later. Ghana maintained their attacking pressure, with Benedicte Simon scoring a third goal in first-half stoppage time.

The three goals gave Ghana a significant advantage heading into the return fixture and left Mauritius with plenty of work to do.

Mauritius must find a way to break down Ghana’s defence while trying to overturn the three-goal deficit. They will need to be more effective in front of goal and avoid giving the hosts opportunities to extend their advantage.

For Ghana, the challenge is to stay focused and avoid complacency. The Black Queens can approach the game with confidence, but keeping their shape, controlling possession and making the most of scoring opportunities will be important.

With a place in the next qualifying round on the line, Ghana will be keen to finish the job in front of their home supporters.

The tie carries added significance for the Black Queens, who are pursuing Ghana’s first-ever qualification for the women’s football tournament at the Olympic Games.

A successful result against Mauritius would send Ghana into the third round of qualifying, where they would meet either Uganda or Zambia.

With a three-goal cushion and home advantage, the Black Queens have given themselves a strong opportunity to move closer to their Olympic dream. They must now turn that advantage into progression.
