Fire Guts Rubber Warehouse and Factory in Tema, Firefighter Injured
A major fire outbreak has destroyed parts of a rubber warehouse and factory in the Tema Industrial Area after an inferno broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the commercial fire started at approximately 12:40 a.m. and involved a “Take Away” facility as well as a rubber warehouse and factory.
Four Fire Stations Deployed
The Fire Service said four fire tenders were dispatched to the scene from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway, and Free Zones Fire Stations to combat the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby facilities.
Firefighters worked through the night to contain the flames and bring the situation under control.
Firefighter Injured During Operation
The GNFS confirmed that some firefighters sustained injuries while battling the fire.
One firefighter suffered injuries after a section of a wall collapsed on him during the operation.
The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at the Tema General Hospital, according to the Fire Service.
Fire Extinguished
Authorities have confirmed that the fire has been fully extinguished.
However, firefighting personnel remain at the scene carrying out salvage and overhaul operations to ensure there are no hidden hotspots that could trigger another outbreak.
Cause Yet to Be Determined
The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, and investigations are expected to begin to establish what triggered the incident.
The Ghana National Fire Service described the incident as a commercial fire and assured the public that the situation is under control.
