All 2026 BECE Results Withheld for Scrutiny Now Released – WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says every 2026 BECE result that had been withheld over suspected irregularities or criminal-related offences has now been released.

WAEC’s Director of Public Affairs, John Kapi, was quick to clarify what’s still outstanding and why. Speaking on TV3’s Daily Brief on Thursday, September 3, 2026, he explained that any remaining pending results aren’t tied to malpractice at all. The real cause, he said, is much simpler: some schools haven’t submitted the continuous assessment marks their candidates need.

For now, we don’t have any outstanding results that have not been released as a result of any criminal action, Kapi said.

He broke it down further, explaining that when a candidate’s result is still missing, it’s usually because their school failed to submit a required piece of the puzzle. So, when you come across any pending results, it is not because they committed any offence but is simply because a certain component of the paper is not present and, in this case, we are talking about the continuous assessment, he said.

Kapi was direct in confirming that the scrutiny process is now complete. All those whose results were held for scrutiny and other things, they have all been released, he said, reiterating once more that anything still pending traces back to missing continuous assessment marks, not disciplinary action. If there is any that has not been released, it is as a result of the absence of their continuous assessment marks.

This year’s exam drew a total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools across the country, made up of 304,415 males and 315,828 females.

On the disciplinary side, WAEC’s Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates, along with the cancellation of entire results for 105 candidates.

Beyond that, subject results for 119 candidates have been withheld, and the entire results of 48 candidates remain withheld as well. Separately, subject results belonging to 2,722 candidates from 229 schools were withheld pending further scrutiny.

Looking ahead, the Computerised School Selection Placement for 2026 BECE candidates is set to be released on Friday, September 4 the next major milestone for students and parents watching closely for updates.
