Ghanaian actor, comedian and broadcaster Seth Kwame Dzokoto has died at the age of 51 after collapsing during a live radio discussion in Tarkwa, Western Region.
Ghana’s entertainment and media community is mourning the death of veteran actor, comedian and broadcaster Seth Kwame Dzokoto, who died on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after suffering a medical emergency while participating in a radio programme in Tarkwa.
Dzokoto, widely recognised for his role as Judge Koboo in the popular television series Efiewura and as host of TV3’s Edziban, was appearing as a panellist on the morning programme “Oman Nkoso” on Owass FM when he suddenly became unwell and collapsed.
According to a statement from Owass FM management, staff immediately took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. The station appealed to the public and media organisations to respect the privacy of his family and avoid circulating unverified information about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Kwame Dzokoto collapses during live radio programme
The incident occurred while Dzokoto was participating in a panel discussion at Owass FM in Tarkwa.
Reports from the programme indicate that he became increasingly unwell during the discussion before collapsing. The broadcast was subsequently interrupted as colleagues and station staff responded to the emergency.
GBC reported that footage from the livestream appeared to show Dzokoto struggling towards the latter part of the programme before the broadcast ended.
He was taken to a hospital in Tarkwa but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Western Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Kirk Mensah, also confirmed Dzokoto’s death, describing him as a familiar figure from Efiewura and Edziban.
Cause of death remains undisclosed
No medically confirmed cause of death has been publicly announced.
Owass FM has specifically urged the public and media houses to refrain from speculation regarding the circumstances of Dzokoto’s death while the family deals with the loss.
The distinction is important as several accounts circulating online have attempted to link his death to previous health concerns. Those claims should not be treated as the cause of death unless confirmed by his family or an appropriate medical authority.
From Judge Koboo to a household name
For many Ghanaians, Dzokoto will be remembered most prominently as Judge Koboo, the comic character he portrayed in the long-running Ghanaian television series Efiewura.
The role helped establish him as one of the country’s recognisable television personalities, with his humour and distinctive delivery making him a familiar presence in Ghanaian homes.
He also became associated with Edziban, TV3’s food-focused programme that explored Ghanaian cuisine, food businesses and culinary culture.
His career extended beyond acting. Dzokoto worked in radio and television broadcasting and was associated with stations including Skyy Power FM in Takoradi and Hello FM in Kumasi. He also appeared in productions including Osumesi.
Dzokoto also pursued politics
Beyond entertainment and broadcasting, Dzokoto entered Ghanaian politics.
He contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2016 general election. Although he did not win the seat, he remained associated with political activity and public commentary in the Western Region.
His death therefore represents a loss across several areas of Ghanaian public life, including entertainment, broadcasting and politics.
Health concerns had surfaced weeks earlier
Dzokoto had addressed public concerns about his health in September after speculation about his appearance and wellbeing circulated publicly.
During an interview, he dismissed reports that he had died and discussed health challenges he had experienced, including treatment and surgery outside Ghana. At the time, he indicated that he was recovering.
Those earlier comments have renewed public interest following his sudden death, but they do not establish the cause of his death.
Ghana mourns a familiar entertainment figure
News of Dzokoto’s death has prompted tributes from colleagues, fans and political associates, with many remembering him for the characters, programmes and broadcasting work that made him a recognisable figure in Ghanaian popular culture.
His Efiewura co-star Koo Fori has also paid tribute, sharing memories of their time together on the popular television production.
At the time of publication, further details concerning funeral arrangements had not been formally announced.
