Golden Arms Set for 2026 World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi
Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, will represent the country at the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi, India, as the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) intensifies preparations for the international competition.
The championship, organised under the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 7, 2026. It is expected to attract about 1,500 elite armwrestlers from around the world, giving Ghanaian athletes an opportunity to compete against some of the sport’s leading competitors.
The Golden Arms will travel with a nine-member team following Ghana’s impressive performance at the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra, where the country demonstrated considerable strength across several categories.
Golden Arms Boast World and African Champions
The Ghanaian team includes some of the country’s most accomplished armwrestlers, including world champion Grace Minta, world championship medallists Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, and African champion Daniel Acquah.
The athletes bring a combination of international experience, continental success and emerging talent as Ghana seeks to maintain its growing reputation in the sport.
National Camping to Begin Ahead of Championship
As part of preparations for the competition, the Golden Arms will begin a national camping programme to bring selected athletes together for intensive training.
The camp will focus on physical conditioning, strength development, technical and tactical preparation, recovery, discipline and mental readiness.
It will also allow the technical team, led by coaches Husseini Akueteh Addy and Nii Otu Larkyne, to assess the athletes and finalise the squad for the various weight categories.
Particular attention will be given to international competition standards as the team prepares to face some of the strongest armwrestlers in the world.
GAF Seeks Support for World Championship Campaign
Ghana Armwrestling Federation President Charles Osei Asibey has reiterated the federation’s commitment to providing Ghanaian athletes with opportunities to compete at the highest level.
The New Delhi championship forms part of the federation’s broader strategy of developing elite athletes capable of competing successfully at both continental and global competitions.
Beyond the pursuit of medals, the championship will give the Golden Arms valuable exposure to different techniques, styles and levels of competition while providing international experience for both the athletes and technical team.
With preparations gathering momentum, the Ghana Armwrestling Federation is appealing to corporate organisations and state institutions for support, particularly with the team’s travel and related expenses.
The Golden Arms will be aiming to compete strongly, challenge for medals and further strengthen Ghana’s position on the global armwrestling stage.
