Asokore Mampong Assembly denies role in Sekyedumasi Bank demolition

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has denied allegations that it demolished a structure belonging to Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC at the Aboabo Market in the Ashanti Region.

In a press statement dated August 13, 2026, the Assembly described the allegation as fabricated, completely false and without basis, insisting that it had not authorised or carried out the demolition of the bank’s structure.

The Assembly said it respects the judicial process and would not take any action that could undermine the authority of the courts.

The denial follows allegations surrounding the demolition of a building housing the bank at the Aboabo Market, amid an ongoing legal dispute between the bank and the Assembly.

Assembly denies carrying out demolition

According to the Assembly, it had been engaging the management of Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC on the matter for about nine months.

It said occupants of the market site were given adequate time to evacuate ahead of a planned demolition exercise.

However, the Assembly maintained that the bank’s structure was not demolished when the exercise eventually took place in June and July 2026.

The Assembly said it had also entered an appearance in a suit filed against it by the bank.

It therefore argued that it would not undertake any action that could be interpreted as an attempt to circumvent or interfere with the judicial process.

Assembly explains demolition procedures

The Municipal Assembly also outlined the procedures it normally follows when carrying out demolition exercises.

It said affected persons are given adequate prior notice before any demolition takes place.

According to the Assembly, such exercises are also supervised by its officials and conducted with the support of the security services.

Any purported demolition exercise outside the standard procedure outlined above cannot be interpreted as having been carried out by the Assembly, the statement stressed.

The Assembly therefore rejected any suggestion that the demolition of the bank’s structure was conducted under its authority.

Assembly warns against damaging allegations

The Assembly said the allegation could amount to a deliberate attempt to discredit the institution and damage its reputation in the eyes of the public.

It reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and said it would continue to respect the authority of the courts in matters before them.

The statement was signed by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director on behalf of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.

The Assembly urged the public to disregard the allegations and maintained that it had no involvement in the alleged demolition of the Sekyedumasi Community Bank structure at the Aboabo Market.
