Police Arrest Seven in Ashanti Region Over Suspected Narcotics Activity
Seven people are in police custody after a series of coordinated raids across the Ashanti Region. The Inspector General of Police’s Special Operations Team (SOT) carried out the arrests on Thursday, August 20, 2026, hitting three separate locations: Ejisu, Abrepo Junction, and Atimatim.
The operations weren’t random. They came off the back of intelligence gathered on suspected narcotics activity in those areas, with police specifically targeting people believed to be involved in possessing, controlling, or using narcotic substances.
At Ejisu, police picked up Nana Kwadwo Adu, 43, and Nana Kwame Fella, 48.
Abrepo Junction saw the largest number of arrests. Four people were taken in there: Stephanie Anokye, 23; Roland Anokye, 20; Gideon Owusu, 30; and Grace Fosua, 27.
At Atimatim, the team’s target was Kofi Opoku, 27, who police say has a history of evading arrest and was suspected of peddling narcotic substances in the area.
According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, the operations turned up a mix of suspected illegal substances. Officers recovered paper pouches containing dried leaves believed to be narcotics, along with quantities of Tramaking (225mg and 250mg), Royal 255mg, and Rohypnol 100mg.
Also seized were 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol, suspected to be unregistered drugs, plus an unspecified sum of Ghanaian currency.
All seven suspects remain in police custody, where they’re assisting with ongoing investigations.
Police say the goal now is to trace where the substances came from, establish exactly how deep each suspect’s involvement runs, and find out whether anyone else is connected to the operation.
The Police Command is also renewing its appeal to the public for help, urging anyone with credible information to come forward and support efforts to keep communities safe.
