Medeama, Nations FC Set for Champion of Champions Showdown in Tarkwa
Ghanaian football’s two reigning domestic champions are about to settle a score. Medeama SC and Nations FC will face off at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday for the 2026 Champion of Champions, with kickoff set for 3:00pm.
It’s fitting that this fixture kicks off the new season. Medeama arrive as winners of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, while Nations FC earned their spot after lifting the MTN FA Cup two very different paths to the same big stage.
For Medeama, Sunday is a chance to put an exclamation point on what’s already been a strong campaign. The Tarkwa-based side will be playing on home turf, and they’ll want to use that advantage to open the new season with more silverware in the cabinet.
There’s plenty else on their radar too. Medeama have also been drawn against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, so continental football is already looming large for the club.
Nations FC’s story this season is a different kind of remarkable. Winning the MTN FA Cup gave them their first major trophy, and it came with a bonus — a maiden appearance in CAF competition, where they’ve been paired against Mali’s FC Diarra in the Confederation Cup preliminary round.
What makes their run even more notable is the backdrop. Nations were relegated to the Division One League last season, so this is very much a statement opportunity — a chance to show they can still hold their own against the country’s top clubs.
Beyond the trophy itself, Sunday’s match doubles as an early litmus test for both sides. With the domestic league season kicking off in September, this is a valuable dress rehearsal before the real business begins.
There’s also a personal subplot worth watching. Emmanuel Annor, who joined the league champions after leaving his former club, will get the chance to face his old side for the first time.
Handling proceedings will be experienced referee Daniel Laryea, with Roland Addy and Theophilus Akugre running the lines as assistant referees.
With two champions, a trophy on the line, and the new season just around the corner, Tarkwa looks set for a genuinely compelling clash between Mauve and Yellow and the Abrankese-based side.
