Many Security Service Recruits Dismissed Over Forged WASSCE Results – Interior Minister
A number of recruits have been kicked out of security service training institutions after it emerged that the WASSCE results they used to gain admission were fake. That’s according to Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed.
The discrepancies came to light after recruits’ academic results were sent to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for verification, a standard step in the process. That’s where the doctored certificates were flagged.
Muntaka revealed the details while speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate new classroom facilities at the Asokore Mampong Roman Catholic School on September 9.
He didn’t hide his disbelief at how many people had attempted this. It’s so shocking that a lot of people forged their results. I don’t know how they think that they will be employed in the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission, or Armed Forces, and the certificate you present won’t be checked, he said.
He confirmed that the consequences have already started. As we speak, many have been dismissed from the training because they have doctored their results slips, he added.
Beyond immediate dismissal, Muntaka made clear that these individuals won’t get a second chance, even if they eventually correct their results and try again. All those involved will be put on a red list. Even when they correct their results and return, they will not be admitted into any Service because their minds are corrupted and should lose that opportunity to join the Service, he said.
Some offenders, he added, could also face prosecution over the fraud.
Muntaka used the moment to send a clear message to anyone considering applying to join the Police Service, Prisons Service, Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission, or Armed Forces make sure your academic qualifications genuinely meet the requirements before submitting an application.
He stressed that verification of academic credentials isn’t going anywhere and will continue to be part of the process, warning prospective recruits against any attempt to manipulate or falsify their results going forward.
For Muntaka, these measures aren’t about punishment for its own sake they’re about safeguarding the credibility of Ghana’s security service recruitment process, ensuring that only genuinely qualified candidates make it through.
