What information must be declared?

  • Travel to or transit through Ebola-affected countries during the previous 21 days
  • Close contact with suspected or confirmed Ebola patients
  • Visits to healthcare facilities treating Ebola cases
  • Relevant funeral or burial exposure
  • Contact with potentially infectious blood, body fluids or contaminated materials
  • Symptoms, including fever, severe weakness, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding

What does the 21-day period mean?

Exposure-history window

Travellers disclose relevant visits and contacts during the previous 21 days.

Possible follow-up monitoring

Travellers from countries with ongoing transmission may be contacted by GHS for up to 21 days after arrival.

Not automatic quarantine

Monitoring and temporary isolation for clinical assessment are different public-health measures.

Screening is not a diagnosis

Temperature checks, health declarations and travel-history reviews help identify people who may require further assessment. They cannot independently confirm or exclude Ebola infection.

Passengers who develop concerning symptoms should seek medical attention promptly and follow public-health instructions.
