Ghana’s 21,000-Tonne Wa Grain Hub: Financing Discrepancy Persists as 2027 Deadline Looms
Ghana's proposed 21,000-tonne Wa grain storage hub targets August 2027, but reports disagree on whether additional financing is US$5m or €5m.

Ghana’s plan for a 21,000-tonne grain storage facility in Wa remains at the memorandum-of-understanding stage, with an August 2027 completion target. Fresh reporting clarifies the proposed operator’s responsibilities and the government’s wider ambitions, but leaves an important question unresolved: whether a second investment component is worth US$5 million or €5 million.
ACCRA — The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and DMT Collateral Management Limited signed an agreement on 3 November to develop a grain storage hub in Wa, Upper West Region, under the Feed Ghana Programme. The proposed silos would provide capacity for maize and rice, help limit post-harvest losses and include a strategic emergency grain reserve.
Wa Grain Storage Project: Promise vs Delivery
Explore the proposed 21,000-tonne facility, disputed financing figures and milestones that still need confirmation.
Evidence snapshot: 5 November 2026
How much grain could the facility handle?
The proposed 21,000 tonnes is storage capacity at one time, not annual production or guaranteed annual throughput.
This is a hypothetical calculation, not a project forecast. The holdback slider does not represent the undisclosed size of the proposed emergency Hospital Bin.
Why the financing total is unresolved
Unresolved: The US$5m and €5m figures are competing descriptions of one component. They are not additive. Neither report supplies the signed financing agreement or independently confirms disbursement.

Evidence and methodology
Does 21,000 tonnes mean annual production?
No. It is the proposed simultaneous storage capacity. Annual throughput depends on occupancy, stock rotations, operational downtime and other factors.
How was the throughput scenario calculated?
21,000 tonnes multiplied by the assumed usable-capacity fraction and the selected number of complete stock rotations. The assumptions are illustrative and not developer commitments.
Is the Hospital Bin included?
The proposed emergency reserve is mentioned in reporting, but its capacity and operating rules have not been disclosed. The calculator does not estimate its size.
Are 15–20 more facilities approved?
No. The minister described them as under consideration. Their financing, locations and capacities have not been confirmed.
