Nollywood Legends Arrive in Ghana for Lil Win’s New Film A Journey to Africa

Ghana’s film industry is receiving a major boost as some of Nollywood’s most recognisable names have arrived in the country to take part in Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, latest international movie project.
Veteran Nigerian actors including Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor, Mike Ezuruonye, Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko are in Ghana for A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu), a production being developed under Lil Win’s Wezzy Empire banner.
The Nigerian stars arrived in Ghana on September 30 and were welcomed by Lil Win and members of his production team.
The project is expected to showcase Ghanaian culture and locations to audiences beyond the country, with the historic Nzulezu stilt village in Ghana’s Western Region forming a central part of the film’s identity.
Ghana and Nigeria strengthen film collaboration
The arrival of the Nollywood stars highlights the continuing relationship between Ghana’s Kumawood industry and Nigeria’s much larger Nollywood market.
Kanayo O. Kanayo and Patience Ozokwor are among the veteran actors involved, while younger and contemporary Nollywood stars including Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko also bring substantial followings to the project.
The collaboration could give the film additional visibility across West Africa and among African audiences internationally.
The production also reflects a growing interest in films that move beyond national boundaries and present African stories through collaborations between actors, producers and filmmakers from different countries.
Lil Win takes Ghanaian culture to a wider audience
At the heart of A Journey to Africa is the opportunity to place a distinctive Ghanaian cultural location on screen.
Nzulezu, the famous stilt settlement in the Western Region, is one of Ghana’s best-known cultural and tourism attractions. Using the location as part of a major film production could expose it to audiences who may otherwise have limited knowledge of Ghana’s heritage sites.
The involvement of established Nigerian actors could further expand the potential audience.
The project comes at a time when African filmmakers are increasingly seeking international audiences through cinema, streaming platforms and social media.
For Ghana, the production also provides another opportunity for Kumawood talent and locations to connect with Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
A cross-border African production
The film has been described in reports as more than simply a Ghana-Nigeria collaboration, with the production seeking to tell an African story that can appeal to audiences across the continent.
With Lil Win leading the Ghanaian side and major Nollywood names joining the cast, attention is now turning to the eventual release of A Journey to Africa and the response from audiences.
The project also underlines the potential for Ghana and Nigeria to work together more closely in film production, particularly as African cinema continues to expand internationally.
