1 dead, 10 injured in crash on Somanya-Nkurakan Highway

One person has died and 10 others sustained injuries in a road crash on the Somanya-Nkurakan Highway at Akode No. 2, near Asseseso, in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and involved two Hyundai H100 passenger vehicles travelling in opposite directions.
The two vehicles, with registration numbers ER 1660-21 and ER 1564-21, reportedly collided head-on, resulting in the death of the male driver of one of the vehicles.
Firefighters rescue trapped victims
Fire officers from the Lower Manya Krobo Kpong Fire Station responded to the incident and worked to extricate the deceased driver and injured passengers who were trapped inside the vehicles.
The 10 injured persons were subsequently conveyed to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital in Somanya, where they are receiving medical treatment.
The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been disclosed.
Further details on what caused the crash, as well as the current condition of the injured victims, are yet to be established.
