Ghana Embassy in US Yet to Receive World Cup Tickets for Diaspora Distribution

Ghana’s Embassy in Washington says it has not yet received tickets allocated for distribution to Ghanaian supporters in the United States but will announce allocation procedures once they become available.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ghana’s Embassy in Washington has announced that it has not yet received tickets allocated for distribution to Ghanaian supporters in the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite growing interest among members of the diaspora eager to support the Black Stars at the tournament.

In a public notice issued to the Ghanaian community in the United States, the embassy said it was still awaiting both the allocation of tickets and guidance on the modalities for distributing them to eligible supporters.

“The Embassy of Ghana in Washington D.C. wishes to inform the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States that the Mission is yet to receive tickets for the World Cup games,” the notice stated.

The Ghana Embassy in Washington DC says it has not yet received allocated tickets for FIFA World Cup matches.

The embassy added that information regarding allocation procedures and distribution arrangements would be communicated once the tickets are received.

“As soon as the mission receives the allocated tickets and modalities on how to distribute them, it will be communicated to the diaspora community accordingly,” the statement said.

The announcement comes amid heightened anticipation among Ghanaians living in the United States following comments by President John Dramani Mahama regarding support for Black Stars fans ahead of the tournament.

During an official visit to the United States, President Mahama indicated that rather than funding the travel of supporters from Ghana to North America, the government would seek to secure tickets through FIFA for members of the Ghanaian diaspora already residing in the United States to attend matches and support the national team.

That announcement generated significant interest among Ghanaian communities across the US, many of whom viewed the initiative as an opportunity to support the Black Stars during football’s biggest tournament without the financial burden of international travel.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is expected to attract millions of supporters from around the world and is projected to be the largest tournament in the competition’s history following FIFA’s expansion to 48 teams.

Ticket demand has already reached unprecedented levels.

According to FIFA figures cited in reporting on the embassy announcement, hundreds of millions of ticket requests were submitted during the initial application phases, reflecting intense global demand for access to World Cup matches.

The strong demand has increased interest among supporters seeking information about ticket availability, allocation mechanisms and travel arrangements.

The embassy’s latest notice is expected to provide some reassurance to Ghanaian supporters who had been awaiting updates on the government’s proposed ticket initiative.

However, the mission has stressed that no ticket allocation details can be announced until it receives the tickets and accompanying distribution guidelines.

The embassy did not indicate how many tickets Ghanaian supporters in the United States might ultimately receive, nor did it provide details on eligibility criteria, application procedures or timelines for distribution. Those details are expected to be released once allocations are confirmed.

The Black Stars secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and are expected to attract strong support from Ghanaian communities across North America, where sizeable diaspora populations are expected to play a visible role during the tournament.

For now, Ghanaian supporters in the United States have been advised to await further communication from the embassy as discussions regarding ticket allocation and distribution continue.
