Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu released from prison

Former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Christine Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has been released from prison custody after the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged her in connection with the criminal case against her.

Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was released from Nsawam Prison on Wednesday afternoon, August 12, 2026, after a release warrant was issued following the withdrawal of an application by the Attorney-General seeking to prevent her release.

She is currently with her family, according to reports.

The former MASLOC CEO was acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal on July 30 after the court determined that she had been wrongly convicted in April 2024.

Attorney-General withdraws application

The development followed proceedings at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, August 12, when state prosecutors informed the court that they had filed a notice withdrawing their application seeking a stay of execution.

The notice was filed on August 10, after the Attorney-General had previously applied to prevent the execution of the Court of Appeal’s decision pending further legal action.

Counsel for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu, Sidney Antonio, indicated that he did not oppose the withdrawal.

However, he argued that the prosecution should have sought leave of the court before withdrawing the application because the matter had already been adjourned for ruling.

After considering the submissions, the court struck out the application as withdrawn.

Release warrant issued

Following the withdrawal of the application to stay execution, the release warrant for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was signed and served on prison authorities.

She was subsequently released from Nsawam Prison later in the afternoon.

The Attorney-General has, however, indicated that the state intends to pursue further legal action by filing an application for a stay of execution at the Supreme Court.

The move could determine whether the state will be able to prevent the Court of Appeal’s acquittal and discharge from taking effect while the matter proceeds to the country’s highest court.

Former MASLOC CEO was convicted in absentia

Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was previously convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

She was found guilty of several offences, including causing financial loss to the state.

Her conviction followed a criminal case involving her tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

The Court of Appeal subsequently overturned the conviction and acquitted and discharged her, paving the way for her release from custody.

For now, Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu remains out of prison following the withdrawal of the Attorney-General’s application, while the state prepares to pursue a stay of execution at the Supreme Court.
