Ghana internationals Caleb Yirenkyi and Brandon Thomas-Asante featured as Coventry City suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Hull City, with the young midfielder starting again while his Black Stars teammate was introduced from the bench.
COVENTRY, England – Caleb Yirenkyi made his second successive Premier League start for Coventry City on Saturday, but the Ghana midfielder could not prevent Frank Lampard’s side from falling to a 1-0 defeat against Hull City.
Fellow Ghana international Brandon Thomas-Asante was introduced from the bench in the second half as Coventry searched for their first league goal of the season. Liam Millar eventually settled the contest for Hull in the 82nd minute, completing a counter-attack to leave Coventry without a point from their opening two Premier League fixtures.
For Ghanaian followers, however, the match offered another opportunity to assess two Black Stars players facing different challenges as Coventry adjust to life back in England’s top flight.
Yirenkyi is attempting to establish himself in Lampard’s midfield.
Thomas-Asante is competing to retain an important attacking role after Coventry strengthened their squad following promotion.
Saturday provided evidence of both battles.
