National Sanitation Day: Talensi DCE Urges Youth to Be Patriotic
Talensi District saw residents roll up their sleeves for this month’s National Sanitation Day, as the District Chief Executive, John Millim Nabwomya, called on the district’s youth to take ownership of good hygiene and keep their surroundings clean.
The exercise took place in Tongo, with residents actively participating in cleaning various parts of the township, including the market and the lorry park.
Given how significant this exercise was, Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga joined in personally, bringing along staff from the Regional Coordinating Council to support the Talensi District Assembly’s efforts. Together, they got involved in cleaning gutters, cutting down weeds, and properly disposing of waste throughout the day.
This wasn’t an exercise left to a few volunteers either. Security services joined in, and students from Bolgatanga Senior High School turned out in large numbers to lend a hand, reflecting a genuinely broad cross-section of the community pitching in.
Regional Minister Atanga expressed satisfaction with how many people showed up for the exercise, but he was also clear in reminding residents that keeping their district clean goes beyond a one-day event it’s a civic responsibility tied to genuine patriotism. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue supporting the district with logistics for water and sanitation needs going forward.

The clean-up wasn’t limited to Tongo alone. Similar exercises took place simultaneously at Pwalugu, Datuko, and Nungu, all within the Talensi District, as part of a broader push to build a cleaner, healthier, and ultimately disease-free community across the region.
