FC AshantiGold 04 have dismissed Abdul Karim Zito and two members of his coaching staff just eight matches into their Ghana Premier League campaign. The club’s chief executive has cited inconsistent performances and reported tensions within the technical team, although another club official has disputed suggestions of internal problems.

OBUASI, Ghana — FC AshantiGold 04 have dismissed head coach and technical director Abdul Karim Kabutey Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeepers’ trainer Robert Dabo, bringing an abrupt end to the coaching arrangement that helped return the Obuasi-based club to Ghana’s top division.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, 27 October, following a meeting of the club’s Interim Management Committee the previous day.

AshantiGold confirmed that the changes took immediate effect and said a caretaker coach had been appointed pending the recruitment of a permanent head coach and technical director. The announcement comes after the newly promoted side collected 11 points from their opening eight Ghana Premier League matches.

Why did AshantiGold dismiss Karim Zito?

The club’s initial announcement did not provide a detailed explanation.

However, chief executive Edward Kwasi Akuoko linked the decision to inconsistent results and reports of disagreements among members of the technical team. Akuoko said management expected more consistent performances and expressed particular concern about the team’s away results.

He also said he had received reports that members of the technical team were not working harmoniously.

Those comments provide the chief executive’s account of the decision. They do not independently establish the nature or extent of any internal disagreements. Separately, club public relations officer Obed Asamoah Mensah told ICAD International Media that the departure was mutually agreed upon and disputed suggestions of problems were behind the scenes.

The different public accounts leave questions about the precise circumstances of the coaching change. Nukunya has not independently established whether there were disagreements within the technical staff or whether any such disagreements affected performances.
