IGP Promotes 25 Police Personnel Over Highway Robbery and Cocaine Busts
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 25 police personnel in recognition of their exceptional performance in operations that led to the arrest of robbery suspects and the interception of suspected illicit drugs.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the officers were elevated to their next ranks following successful operations across the Bono East, Tema and Western Central Police Regions.
The operations included the arrest of suspects linked to a robbery on the Kintampo-Buipe Highway, the dismantling of a suspected robbery syndicate in Wassa Akropong and the interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at Tema Harbour.
Officers Honoured for Highway Robbery Arrests
Six suspects were arrested in connection with a robbery along the Portor to Kawempe stretch of the Kintampo-Buipe Highway on July 19, 2026.
The suspects were allegedly involved in an operation during which GH¢300,000 was stolen from a victim.
The police personnel involved in the investigation and arrests were among those recognised through the promotions.
Four other suspected members of a violent robbery syndicate were also arrested in the Tarkwa area as part of a separate operation in Wassa Akropong.
Tema Harbour Cocaine Interception
The promotions also recognised personnel involved in the recent interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour.
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to prevent the trafficking of illicit drugs through Ghana’s ports and other entry points.
The successful operations were cited by the Police Service as examples of the officers’ contribution to the fight against organised crime.
25 Personnel Receive Promotions
Among those promoted are Chief Inspectors Bede Nwinbomeh and Joe Tetteh, who have been granted automatic entry into the Police Academy.
Other promoted personnel include General Sergeants Elijah Ndaga Yinimi and Kaifan Sulemanna; General Corporals Owusu Ansah Evans and Tansang Jonathan; and General Lance Corporals Osei Christopher Bonny, Kyei Francis, Ofori Francis, Anim Dominic and Asante Isaac.
General Constables Adam Bakari Alhassan and Bakai Mark were also promoted.
Members of the Detective Corps who received promotions include Detective Chief Inspector Frank Dzah; Detective Inspectors Edem Ametowoga, Abroso and Vincent Dankwah; and Detective Sergeants Salifu Yakubu and Samuel Mordzifa.
Six additional personnel were also elevated to their next ranks in recognition of their contributions to the operations.
IGP Commends Officers
The IGP and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) congratulated the promoted officers for what they described as dedication, courage and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Christian Tetteh Yohuno urged personnel to maintain high standards of commitment and professionalism, assuring officers that exceptional performance and hard work would continue to be recognised and rewarded.
The promotions come as the Ghana Police Service continues efforts to strengthen its response to robbery, drug trafficking and other forms of organised crime.
