Six Arrested Over Death of Tricycle Rider at Dulugu-Zuarungu
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested six people in connection with the death of a tricycle rider, Akolbila Blessing, at Dulugu-Zuarungu. Police say the case is being treated as an alleged murder.
According to police, the trouble started over money. Preliminary investigations suggest Blessing was attacked and beaten after allegedly failing to account for sales he was expected to make while operating a tricycle owned by a man identified as Mpika.
The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, when a dispute broke out over the missing sales figures. Police say that disagreement escalated quickly, resulting in Blessing allegedly being assaulted by six people.
Blessing was discovered unconscious in his room the following day. He was rushed to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have named the six suspects arrested in connection with the case as Avandiba Atubiga Kante, 26; Atua Atombire Mpika, 40; Amale Nyaaba Nicholas, 30; Atua Ayinbotima, 22; Atuah Nsobila Prosper, 21; and Ayine Albert Sunday, 39.
All six remain with police, assisting investigators as they work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding Blessing’s death.
In response to the incident, the Police Command has renewed its call for the public to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than resorting to violence. It has also assured residents that it remains committed to enforcing the law and holding anyone found responsible fully accountable.
