Ethiopia Attacks Deepen Health Crisis as WHO Warns Hospitals Are Near Breaking Point
WHO warns violence in Ethiopia's Amhara and Tigray regions is pushing healthcare towards collapse. Reuters reports at least 15 deaths at a displacement camp as aid access deteriorates.

Deadly attacks on displaced civilians in northern Ethiopia are adding to pressure on hospitals already short of staff, medicines and ambulances. The World Health Organization warns that insecurity is blocking essential healthcare, while its emergency teams have delivered more than 71 tonnes of medical supplies across three affected regions.
ADDIS ABABA — The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that renewed violence in northern Ethiopia is pushing an already fragile health system towards collapse after reported attacks on civilians in Amhara and Tigray. Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus cited deaths at the Jari 2 displacement camp in Amhara and in the Tigrayan town of Rama, while warning that hospitals face shortages of health workers, medicines and equipment.
The incidents are not interchangeable with attacks directly targeting medical facilities: the latest deaths cited by Tedros concern civilians, while separate UN statements have condemned attacks that also affected health infrastructure. WHO has not identified the perpetrators of the two specific incidents in Tedros’s statement.
