MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer Ralph Mupita has been appointed as a founding commissioner of the AI for Good Global Commission, a new United Nations-backed initiative aimed at promoting responsible artificial intelligence (AI) and expanding digital inclusion worldwide.

The AI for Good Global Commission is an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency responsible for information and communication technologies.
The Commission seeks to:

Reacting to his appointment, Ralph Mupita described the role as an honour and highlighted AI’s enormous potential to transform lives across Africa and beyond.

Its inaugural meeting is taking place this week in Geneva, Switzerland, where commissioners are expected to discuss international cooperation, AI governance, digital inclusion, and responsible AI deployment.
MTN Betting Big on Artificial Intelligence

The company has identified AI as a key engine for future business growth and expects the technology to create approximately R30 billion in value over the next three to five years.
