ACCRA, Ghana — The United States Embassy in Accra has announced that it will temporarily suspend most routine passport and visa services from 20 July to 31 July 2026 to allow scheduled maintenance work at its consular facilities. Normal operations are expected to resume on Monday, 3 August 2026.
The embassy said the temporary suspension will affect most non-emergency consular services during the maintenance period and advised members of the public to adjust their travel and documentation plans accordingly.
Among the services that will be unavailable are walk-in notarial appointments and applications for Consular Reports of Death Abroad. However, the embassy said applicants who have already received email confirmation that their U.S. passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) are ready for collection will still be able to collect their documents on Thursdays between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. during the maintenance period.
The embassy also confirmed that adult passport renewal applications submitted through its designated drop-box service will continue to be processed. Applicants have been encouraged to follow the instructions published on the embassy’s official website regarding passport renewals.
Emergency consular assistance for U.S. citizens in Ghana will remain available throughout the maintenance period. Individuals requiring urgent assistance have been advised to contact the embassy’s duty officer using the emergency telephone number provided by the mission.
