Hearts of Oak to Use University of Ghana Stadium for Opening Home Fixtures
Accra Hearts of Oak’s start to the new season is coming with an unexpected venue change. The Phobians will play their opening two home fixtures of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season at the University of Ghana Stadium, stepping away from their usual base at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The club has struck a temporary arrangement with the University of Ghana Stadium to host their Matchday 1 and Matchday 3 fixtures. The reason comes down to timing the Accra Sports Stadium is currently unavailable, as work is underway on the pitch ahead of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia in September.
As the club explained in their announcement: Accra Hearts of Oak SC has made temporary arrangements with the University of Ghana Stadium for the use of the facility for our Matchday 1 and Matchday 3 fixtures.
Hearts open their domestic campaign on Sunday, September 6, 2026, hosting Berekum Chelsea. From there, they travel for their Matchday 2 fixture against Bibiani Gold Stars, before returning to Accra to welcome Bechem United the following week.
Both of those September home games will now be played at the University of Ghana Stadium rather than the Accra Sports Stadium, where the team is normally based.
Hearts have acknowledged the disruption this might cause and are counting on their supporters to stick with them through it. We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our cherished supporters, the club said.
For head coach Nebojsa Kapor, this means adapting to a new home environment right out of the gate — never an ideal way to open a season, but one the club will need to navigate quickly if they want a strong start to the campaign.
This isn’t new territory for Hearts. Last season, the club also had to shift home venues mid-campaign, splitting time between the Legon Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium. The results from that stretch weren’t particularly kind Hearts managed just six wins and one draw across 17 home matches.
The club says more details on their venue arrangements beyond these opening fixtures will be shared in due course.
