Ghana and Philippines Agree to Exchange Expertise on Labour Mobility
Ghana and the Philippines are deepening ties, with Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa holding talks with his Philippine counterpart, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Ablakwa used the meeting to commend the Philippine government for its decision to open an embassy in Ghana later this year a first in the two countries’ bilateral relationship. It’s a symbolic step that signals both sides are ready to take their relationship further.
Sharing details of the discussion on his X page, Ablakwa said Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to deepen trade and investment cooperation. Concrete plans include organising business fora in both countries and establishing a chamber of commerce to support that growing economic relationship.
One area that stood out from the talks was labour mobility. “We also agreed to exchange ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements,” Ablakwa said, pointing to a shared interest in learning from each other’s approaches to managing workforce movement between the two countries.
Ablakwa said he’s looking forward to hosting Lazaro in Ghana soon, having formally invited her to visit as both countries continue building on this growing partnership.
