A raid on a lounge near Achimota Mile 7 in the Greater Accra Region has ended with 64 arrests and a serious haul of weapons. The Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (SOA), working with the National SWAT team, carried out the operation over the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The raid followed complaints from residents about suspected criminal activity at the lounge and in the surrounding area. Some reports spoke of firearms being openly displayed, and even traded, on the premises.

During the swoop, officers spotted a blue, unregistered Acura containing a pistol holster. Nobody at the scene claimed the vehicle or the holster, so the car was impounded and taken to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Among those arrested was Theophilus Ashon, who allegedly claimed to be a police officer attached to CID Operations. Checks quickly showed he had no connection to the Service. A search of his person turned up a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Further intelligence and investigations led police to a location in Atico, where another suspect, Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was arrested. A search of his residence uncovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition: three pump-action guns, four pistols, 62 AA and BB cartridges, 54 rounds of 40-calibre ammunition, and other exhibits.
