Ghana to Mark World Tourism Day 2026 With Eastern Expo in Koforidua
Ghana is going all in for this year’s World Tourism Day, pairing the celebration with a full week-long Eastern Expo in Koforidua, Eastern Region, running from September 26 to October 3, 2026.
Organised under the theme Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment, the celebration is designed to bring together stakeholders across tourism, culture, creative arts, and investment giving businesses, tourism operators, exhibitors, investors, and policymakers a shared space to connect, showcase what they offer, and explore new collaborations.
The programme officially kicks off on Monday, September 28, with Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie expected to lead the opening ceremony. The event will spotlight tourism’s role as a genuine driver of economic growth, job creation, enterprise development, and community involvement.
Things actually get moving a bit earlier, though. On Saturday, September 26, activities begin with a health walk, meant to promote wellness while giving stakeholders and residents a fun, recreational way to kick off the celebrations ahead of visitors arriving from across the country.
Then comes Sunday, September 27 World Tourism Day itself, marked globally. Ghana will host a sensitisation workshop tied to this year’s global theme, Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism, bringing stakeholders together to discuss both the opportunities and challenges facing the sector, with a focus on sustainable practices and investment.
That same day, seminars will run alongside the workshop, giving participants a chance to engage directly with industry experts on issues around tourism promotion, particularly opportunities that can translate into real local economic development.
As part of the Expo, exhibitors will showcase a range of tourism products and services, creating space for marketing and networking throughout the week. The event ties into the broader Black Star Experience and World Tourism Day celebrations, helping raise the Eastern Region’s profile as a genuine tourism and investment hub, while directly benefiting local businesses and communities in the process.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is encouraging stakeholders to get actively involved, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to building a sustainable tourism sector that genuinely supports national development and people’s livelihoods.
